Digital Infrared Imaging (Thermography)

Digital Infrared Imaging

Digital Infrared Imaging or more commonly known as Thermography, is a non-invasive test using an infrared camera to pinpoint thermal changes within the body. Breast thermography has been researched for over 30 years with over 800 peer-reviewed breast thermography studies in the Index-Medicus. There is no radiation, it’s harmless, painless, and requires very little of your time. The camera gauges body tissue heat that is then reflected on a high-speed computer for imaging.

Thermography can help visualize pain and inflammation and give a red-flag warning to areas of concern whether or not symptoms are actually present. These changes are often the earliest signs of vascular disease, immune dysfunction, and systemic inflammation.

One of the most common uses of thermography is breast screening. Breast thermography is beneficial for all women. Thermography shows temperature differences on the surface of the breasts to diagnose breast cancer. By carefully examining changes in the temperature and blood vessels of the breasts, signs of possible cancer or pre-cancerous cell growth may be detected years prior to being discovered using any other procedure. This provides for the earliest detection of cancer possible. Breast thermography has an average sensitivity and specificity of 90%.

Thermography assesses blood flow patterns, inflammation, and function. Mammography, Ultrasound, and Breast MRI assess densities and anatomical masses.

Mammography does not have the ability to see blood flow patterns and inflammation. Consequently, breast thermography is best used in conjunction with Mammography, Ultrasound, Breast MRI, and/or physical examination when there is a concern.

Thermography is also an excellent tool to detect muscular/skeletal, vascular, and nervous system irregularities, stroke and inflammation screening, monitoring injury, chronic illness, and much more. All individuals with unexplained pain may benefit from thermography. You can choose from different screening combinations including breast, half-body, full-body, regions of interest, and immune health.
